Rules for El Cerrito

Permits

We handle your El Cerrito roofing permit application and coordinate required City reviews and inspections. You won’t need to manage the permit application or City paperwork yourself. El Cerrito’s FY2026/27 residential reroof base is $708 through 1,500 square feet, plus $14 for each additional 100 square feet. That replaces the older $685 base in our February receipt. Applicable additional assessments and processing charges still need to be included in the current total. ARS allows approximately one week for permitting; issuance is not guaranteed.

Waste-plan exemption

Residential reroofs do not require the City’s waste-management plan. We confirm the exemption against your permit scope, including any addition or other work.

Replacement or overlay

We coordinate the replacement roof’s required deck-nailing and installation checks before final; the in-progress check is around one-third complete. An approved overlay uses final only. We confirm the correct route before roofing begins.

From the El Cerrito building department and our own project records. Rules updated October 15, 2026; permit-fee references reviewed October 11, 2026; detailed inspection guidance checked October 10, 2026. Fees change, so we confirm yours when we pull the permit.

Inspections

Inspections and booking

  1. Deck and sheathing — We confirm El Cerrito’s tear-off and Roof Deck Nail requirements before covering new or repaired decking. The routine in-progress visit follows tear-off and any needed new sheathing; we ask whether your permit also requires a separate pre-cover check.
  2. In-progress — For new roofing over new or existing sheathing, we arrange Roof In-Progress when about one-third of the new roofing is installed, then final. An eligible overlay over existing roofing requires final only. We keep any separately assigned sheathing check in the plan.
  3. Final closeout — We confirm and coordinate the applicable requirements. Building/Roof Final after the new roof is installed and all assigned corrections/conditions are cleared.
  4. Scheduling — We submit the City inspection request form at least 2 business days ahead, excluding Fridays in the lead-time calculation; scheduling page lists a 4 p.m. cutoff. Staff confirmation is required. Visits Monday–Thursday and open alternate Friday mornings; AM 8–12 or PM 12–4, no Friday afternoons.
